Audition Preparation
Thank you for your interest in the Louisville Youth Choir!
To complete enrollment in LYC programs, singers in grades 3-12 must perform a simple audition for vocal placement. No previous singing experience is required to participate in LYC, and our staff will walk your singer through the process with ease.
Audition Preparation: Singers in grades 3-12 who audition for membership in the Louisville Youth Choir should be prepared to perform the following for the audition:
- sing scales to determine vocal range
- sing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" with audition sheet music and audition accompaniment (see blue buttons below to practice)
- clap rhythm patterns by reading a musical line and/or repeating rhythmic patterns that are clapped for them
Singers will be notified where they have been placed in LYC ensembles immediately following the audition and staff will provide information on how to complete online enrollment for your singer.
Please note, singer's placement will be in the ensemble and voice part that best fits their voice and needs of the choir.
LYC annually holds Open Auditions in August, September and in January. Private auditions can be scheduled at any point in the LYC season.
